Registering for the Four Seasons Fred Whitton

You can register and collect a loaned timing card and a rider information leaflet at Coniston Tourist Information Centre. You're then ready to go to the start point and do your ride that day if you like, or you can register and collect a timing card in advance. It's probably best to contact the Tourist Information Centre to check they'll be open when you visit.

Alternatively you can use our Contact Page to send a message saying that you'd like to register. Please include your name and email address (please type it carefully). We'll then email a Four Seasons entry form to you and ask you to return it with a cheque for £2 per rider (cheque payable to "Fred Whitton Challenge") to cover the post and packing costs for sending a loaned timing card and a rider information leaflet to you.

Route and Checkpoints

The route for the Four Seasons is the same as the route for our annual Fred Whitton Challenge event in May - see our route page for details - except for the following differences:-

  • The Four Seasons Fred Whitton start and finish boxes in Coniston are at Hill's petrol station store in the village. (Our annual event starts and finishes not far away at the Sports Centre.)
  • Several of the checkpoints are at different places to our annual event. The Four Seasons checkpoints are at:- You'll get full details of the the exact location of the boxes when you register.
  • The Four Seasons doesn't include the feed stations and post-ride facilities that we provide for our annual event. But there are pubs, cafes and stores at various points on the route. And several have kindly and freely hosted the checkpoint boxes, so they're convenient places to break your ride and we encourage you to support these businesses.

You Must Return our Timing Card

Whichever way you register and get a timing card, after checking in at the finish station box outside Hill's petrol station and store, you MUST then hand in the timing card at the counter inside, for final download of your ride time. Your results will then be uploaded to the Four Seasons results page (which currently has on it the finishers in this year's Fred Whitton Challenge ride in May).

The store is open long hours every day, but if for any reason you don't return our timing card at the finish, then you must post it to us in a padded envelope to the following address:-
    Paul Loftus
    Greylags, Foxfield
    Broughton in Furness
    Cumbria LA20 6BX. Tel: 01229 716582.

We will charge you the cost of replacement (£15) if you don't return our timing card.
