2010 Event

The 2010 Fred Whitton Challenge will be held on Sunday 9th May. Entry will not open until January. See Enter 2010 Event

Many thanks to everyone who sent in entries - we really appreciate your support. Sadly we can't accommodate all who want to ride the event, so we've used a random draw, done by Lynne Whitton, to select successful entries, and all the standard entry places in this year's event are now taken.

Click Here for the list of accepted riders.

We're really sorry if your entry wasn't successful - we'll return your entry fee cheque (or destroy it if you didn't enclose an SAE). Some sponsored entry places are still available - see below.

We also need more volunteers to help with this year's event - marshalling, helping at the start and finish and at feed stations, etc. And anyone who helps significantly can earn a guaranteed place in next year's event. If you'd like to help please Contact Us and let us know your contact details.

Sponsored Entry and Reserved Places

In addition to the standard 1000 places, we are keeping 250 extra places reserved for people who guarantee to raise at least £250 sponsorship for the event charities, paid up-front with entry. These will be available until all the places have been taken.

Sponsorship is in addition to the entry fee, which is £40 per rider. This covers our costs of providing electronic timing, 2 feed stations plus a small meal at the finish, a certificate of your ride and free parking at Coniston Sports Centre field, weather permitting. The event is volunteer organised and run, and after expenses all remaining proceeds from the entry fee are donated to the event charities.

To apply for a sponsored entry place, please download the following special sponsored entry form using the link below, fill it in and send it off with your cheque for the entry fee and the £250 guaranteed sponsorship, and an A5 stamped self-addressed envelope.

Whilst £250 may seem a lot of money, the whole reason for the event is to raise as much money as possible for our charities. With the sheer demand for places we feel riders will be happy to raise this amount & help support the good causes.

Some of these extra places will also be used for people who have already guaranteed their place by raising over £500 in last year's event, or helped a lot with past events, and for genuine overseas riders. If you think this applies to you then please use our Contact Us page to send us a message asking for a special entry form.

Please note that all riders in the event must wear a helmet.
